COMPARISON BETWEEN BREAST MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING AND CONTRAST - ENHANCED MAMMOGRAPHY

Introduction: X-rays and MRI are pivotal for breast cancer screening and diagnosis, with CEM using X-rays to detect abnormalities and MRI offering detailed soft tissue information. Together they enhance early detection and treatment outcomes for breast cancer.
Aim of the paper: The aim of the paper is to introduce contrast mammography and breast magnetic resonance imaging separately, while also identifying the strengths and weaknesses of each technique. This will facilitate their direct comparison.
Discussion: Contrast mammography offers advantages in breast imaging: precise tumor staging, lesion detection, and treatment monitoring. It's useful for unclear mammograms and dense-breasted high-risk women. Contrast mammography has disadvantages due to increased radiation dose and artifacts.
Conversely, breast magnetic resonnace imaging provides detailed images, better lesion identification, and treatment assessment. It's crucial for high-risk cases and hidden tumors. Innovations like diffusion weighted imaging and shorter protocols offer extra choices. However, MRI has limitations including artifacts and costs. Contrast mammography is a viable magnetic resonance imaging alternative, with high sensitivity. Both contrast mammography and magnetic resonnace imaging have unique advantages and limitations, prompting further research.
Conclusion: Breast cancer imaging has evolved with techniques such as mammography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Combining contrast mammography and magnetic resonance imaging improves diagnosis. Standardized reporting enhances communication and patient care. Ongoing advancements and standardization are transforming breast cancer treatment and outcomes.
