Abstract

For many years the lung has been considered not applicable for ultrasound. It has been recently shown that lung ultrasound represents a useful tool for the evaluation of many pulmonary conditions especially in children. Children have thin thorax and because pulmonary lesions tend to reach pleura it is a method of choice. Lung ultrasound is usually performed aside patient bed. Method was developed from clinicians to clinicans. There are some distinct changes (artefacts) on lung ultrasound that have to be recognised. Scanning have to be systematic, always in same order, to provide measurable and exact information about the lung pathology. Lung ultrasound is suitable for follow up and early detection of disease complication. Lung ultrasound can easily be incorporated in diagnostic algorithm in purpose to reduce X - ray exposure. Clinical use of lung ultrasound may allow quicker arrival at correct diagnosis and management leading to improved patient outcomes.
